City has new ambulance service

Posted

Newburgh City Council approved on Monday, April 8 for the city manager to execute a contract with Empress Ambulance Services LLC. The agreement would provide emergency medical and ambulance services in the City of Newburgh.

City Corporation Counsel Michelle Kelson presented the item at the April 4 work session for the council to review and consider before Monday night. “Most of you know that for a number of years the city has contracted with Mobile Life [Support] Services to provide emergency services to the City of Newburgh at a relatively low or zero cost,” she said.

“Mobile Life is no longer in business, they’ve been acquired by Empress Ambulance Services,” she continued. “Knowing that our contract was going to pretty much expire, the city put out a request for proposals for other companies to come in and provide these services.”

Kelson reported to the council that Empress was the only organization to respond and after review and consideration, the city deemed Empress to be qualified to provide the services. Documents on the scope of work and other related information is available on the city website.

The contract would be from April 1, 2024 to December 31, 2026 at the cost of $2.8 million.
