New Windsor seeks a recreation master plan

Posted

The New Windsor Town Board approved an agreement on Wednesday, April 3 between the town and MHE Engineering, D.P.C. for additional services, including, but not limited to, the subcontracting of Nelson, Pope & Voorhis, LLC. The approved firm will help the town in the preparation and development of a conceptual Recreation Plan document.

At the town work session on Monday, April 1, Town Supervisor Stephen Bedetti discussed with the town board that the town had gone out last year for grants for recreation programs. The goal was to have basketball and pickleball facilities built at Kristi Babcock Memorial Park. However, the town was not able to receive that specific funding.

Inquiring through Senator James Skoufis’s office as to why the town was not able to receive the grant, a reason for this, according to Bedetti, was that there was no recreation master plan. This document, it would help identify the town’s wants and needs for recreation, park types and sizes and other relevant recreation information going forward.

“Once we complete this plan, hopefully it’s going to put us in a better running for grants when we go out for recreation programs and stuff to upgrade our parks,” Bedetti said Wednesday night.
