The Wallkill River School is currently hosting three exhibits: A Time of Day by Laura Martinez-Bianco; Enlightened Views of Robert Trondsen and Romantic Landscapes, a group exhibit.

Laura Martinez-Bianco has spent her life in the Hudson Valley and has always appreciated and valued the beauty of its landscape. Her paintings are inspired by her surroundings, whether at home or abroad. After receiving her degree in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz, she continued to study painting with local artists in the Hudson Valley.

Laura has taught and hosted painting workshops in Italy and Cape Cod. Workshops provide her with an opportunity to paint and to teach others the Plein Air experience. Her work spans a variety of medium including pastel, oil and printmaking; recently focusing on encaustics. Her work is in private collections throughout the US, Italy and Denmark. Her work has been exhibited in Regional and National Exhibits while receiving numerous awards.

Robert Trondsen received his degree in Advertising Art and Design at the State University of New York and worked as an artist in the “Mad Men” days of advertising in New York City.

His work in the advertising and editorial fields has included on-screen special projects for movies including “Zelig”, “The Natural”, “Fatal Attraction”, “Wall Street”, and “Kiss of Death”. Projects for Woody Allen’s “Zelig” are in the permanent collection in the Museum of the Moving Image in New York.

As an illustrator he has done work for Life Savers, Post Cereals, Lever Brothers, Nabisco, “Cigar Aficionado”, “Wine Spectator”. “Food Arts”, Bell Atlantic, Citicorp, ABC Network, Revlon, Clairol, “World Broadcast News”, North Shore University Hospital, Special Expeditions and Union Camp. Robert has designed numerous company logos including the logo for “The National Literacy Honors”, an incentive program created by The American Broadcasting Company and First Lady Barbara Bush.

Starting out as a still life painter, he later turned to landscapes in the tradition of the Hudson Valley School but with a more contemporary painting style. These luminous landscapes border on the ethereal mood of the tonalists. He is one of the five artists contracted to paint landscapes for the Dutchess County Land Conservancy and was represented in the Locust Grove 2009 Invitational Art Auction at the Samual Morse historic site.

Romantic Landscapes is a group exhibit juried by Robert Trondsen featuring landscapes in the romantic style, emphasizing mood, emotion and the sublime. It includes 15 paintings by local artists.

All three of these shows are on display through May 30. Hours are Friday and Saturday, 12-5 p.m.

The Wallkill River School is located in the historic Patchett House, 232 Ward Street (Route 17K), Montgomery.
