On June 23 the Marlborough Conservative Party, headed by Mike Dovich, met at the Cluett Schantz Park to nominate candidates for local town offices for the November election. The caucus was attended by 38 members of the party, one of the largest turnouts in recent memory.

Republican Scott Corcoran won the endorsement over Democrat Al Lanzetta for the position of Supervisor by a vote of 29 to 9. Corcoran is a 10 year member of the Town Board.

“Through my combined 24 years at IBM and Global Foundries, I have learned that a successful leader takes counsel and advice not only from like minded people but also from a team of diverse individuals as well. I look forward to leading this team as we work together for the betterment of our Town,” he said.

For Town Council, Republicans Sherida Porpiglia Sessa and Emanuel ‘Manny’’ Cauchi were uncontested and won the Conservative Party endorsement.

Sessa said, “I am honored to receive the Conservative Party nomination for Town Council. Having been in the corporate world planning trade shows for over 15 years, I consider myself very action oriented. If elected, I am committed to representing the community and working hard to continue improving our Town. I was born and raised here and now am raising my own children here. I want to see our Town progress so it stays a great place for our children.”

Cauchi is the owner of the Milton based company BASEC Glass and is a member of the Marlborough Planning Board.

“I’m a businessman who wants to help the Town attract new business to increase our much needed tax base. With my business background and experience on the Planning Board I believe I can be a great asset to the Town Council and our community.”

Colleen Corcoran won the Conservative endorsement for Town Clerk, a position she has held for a decade.

“Over the past ten years it’s been my privilege to serve our community as your Town Clerk and I look forward to continuing that role over the next four years. I will continue to serve my Town and our community to the best of my ability,” she said.

The Conservative Party endorsed John Alonge for Highway Superintendent. He opened his acceptance speech by thanking his wife, Rosanne, and his children for their support.

“I love my Town and take pride in the job that I do everyday. I work alongside a great group of men who also take pride in the work that they do. With your support I will be able to continue the job that we have started,” he said.

Gina Hansut and Tom Corcoran are running for the Ulster County Legislature in Districts 10 and 11, respectively. Previously the two were endorsed by the Conservative Party.

Hansut was unable to attend the caucus but submitted a statement.

“Serving the public is just something that is part of me and my family. My father Danny Alfonso was a County Legislator for 26 years, my mom then served two terms and then my husband Paul served two terms at the County as well as Lloyd Supervisor. I have volunteered a lot over the years and this is the next step for me to continue my public service as your new District 10 County Legislator,” she said.

Tom Corcoran thanked all who turned out in support of candidates whom he said represent true Conservative values. He took issue with the Marlborough Democratic party’s failure to hold a caucus this year.

“Instead they decided to go behind closed doors and hand pick their candidates without allowing the public to have a say in their nominees. The Democrats choose not to hold an open and fair Caucus like the Republican and Conservative parties. The Democratic Party chose to select their nominees by their committee members rather than by the public and used the petition process instead of an open and fair Caucus like the one we are having tonight. As your County Legislator who represents all constituents in our Town I feel this was a disservice to the public and to all our Marlborough Democratic friends.”

The Conservative Party candidates will be found on ballot row C for the November 2, 2021 General Election.
