Dukes roll to 39-3 win in opener

It was a big night for the Marlboro Iron Dukes.

The defense forced five turnovers and scored 26 points in the first half on their way to a 39-3 over the Spackenkill Spartans in a non-league football game on Friday night at Pat Burkett Field at Marlboro High School.

The Iron Dukes got interceptions from Daylon McKenzie and Christopher DeNatale and fumble recoveries from Dylan Sanchez, Sean Robertson, and Jason Oneto.

Salvatore Montaperto, Jr. had 10 tackles, while Sam Garitta and Robertson had eight tackles each. Michael DiViesti had six tackles and Nate Armstrong made five.

Montaperto led the Iron Dukes offensively running for 135 yards and three rushing touchdowns. He scored on two runs of 25 yards each and a 40-yard touchdown run. Jack Buzzurro had 105 rushing yards and a touchdown. Robertson ran for 40 yards, 35 of them coming on a long touchdown run.

Carter Rivieccio threw for 85 yards, ran for 80 and scored on a 55-yard touchdown run.

L.J. German was the Iron Dukes’ leading wide receiver, hauling in four passes for 85 yards.

It was the first of two non-league Class B games for the Iron Dukes, who will host the Highland Huskies on Friday night. The Iron Dukes will play their first Class B divisional game on Sept. 21 when they visit the Saugerties Sawyers.
