Lloyd awaits 9W traffic signal

After nearly 15 years in the pipeline, the Tillson, Toc and Vineyard realignment project is expected to be completed by the end of May.

Last week Lloyd Supervisor Dave Plavchak gave an update on the status of project, as he has done at every recent board meeting.

“If you’ve been up there you’ve seen a lot of activity, a lot of fill going down and the drainage on Vineyard Avenue is complete. All the pipes are in, all the structures are in, so everything coming down from Tillson and Toc now will go through the drainage on Vineyard,” he said. “The under drains from curb to culvert were being done this week.”

Plavchak noted that all of the guide rails are being installed across the culvert and the bridge.

“They cut the road out so they can start raising the elevations with the fill, so you can see the elevations on both sides; it looks way different,” he said.

Plavchak said immediate plans call for finishing the curbing and the rest of the sidewalk and completing the elevation work.

“The week of May 13 is when they begin the base and binder and once that is down then all you have left is the top coat. We’re still on track to get the whole intersection open by the end of May.”

Councilman John Fraino touched upon the effort to bring electricity to the new Lewis DiStasi Pavilion at the town field, with the primary electrical wire now installed.

Fraino said they are focusing on connecting the transformer and a panel in the building. He said he received two quotes for the electrical work and a third opted not to bid on the work. He is seeking a third quote.

“It’s always good to have three and hopefully we can vote on that at the next board meeting and we’ll get that moving,” he said.

Fraino said he recently spoke with architect Sean Williams, of Williams ReCraft, who is finalizing the actual block building design structure, “and we hope to go out to bid for the bathrooms and storage area at the pavilion.”

Councilman Mike Guerriero said is appears that everything is at a standstill at the site of the Villages project, opposite the Bridgeview Shopping Plaza.

“It looks like no activity up there and I was just wondering when are they going to put the traffic light up [at Route 9W and Mayer Drive]. Plavchak said they are waiting for the traffic light to arrive but all of the light’s infrastructure has already been put in. He suggested this may be due to a supply issue that has delayed the delivery of the light because they were supposed to receive it at the end of April.

Guerriero said, “I know they wanted to bring in the cottages and they wanted to get everything rolling and then all of a sudden everything stopped.”

Plavchak said the developer is working with the Planning Board on some phasing of the project. Previously, however, project attorney John Furst asked the Planning Board to allow his client, Marc Sanderson, to move on to the 2nd and 3rd phases despite the fact that the 1st phase is not finished. The Planning Board indicted they were not in favor of Furst’s request until Phase 1 was fully completed.

Furst did not return a phone call for comment.
