Huskies rip Ellenville, 8-1
Sophie Valentino scored four goals, leading the Highland Huskies to an 8-1 win over Ellenville in a Mid Hudson Athletic League Division III girls’ soccer game on Thursday at Highland Middle School.

Sadie Hollifield added two goals, while Gabby Gemmell and Ava Acompora had one each.

Huskies blank Ellenville in volleyball opener
Cadence Meltz had two digs and five aces, leading the Highland Huskies to a 3-0 win over the Ellenville Blue Devils in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League Division III volleyball match on Thursday at Highland High School.
The Huskies won the match, 25-9, 25-10, 25-21.

Maddie Violaris had three kills and seven aces and Amelia DelForno had nine assists and two aces. Avery Sosnick had seven assists and three aces.

Marlboro golfers top Rondout
Tyler Rosenberger shot a 37, leading the Marlboro Iron Dukes to a 156-174 win over the Rondout Valley Ganders in a Mid Hudson Athletic League boys’ golf match on Wednesday at Apple Greens Golf Course in Highland.

Colin Benninger had a nine-hole score of 43, while Hunter Pitkin and Pat Tarsio each shot a 47.

Huskies edge Briarcliff in opener
Joshua Bishopp had two returns for a touchdown and A.J. Nugent ran for two, as the Highland Huskies opened their season with a 24-21 win over Briarcliff at Alexander Hamilton Junior/Senior High School in Elmsford on Saturday.

The Huskies were trailing by three points early in the fourth quarter when Nugent scored his second touchdown of the day, from four yards out to give the Huskies the lead for good with 11:29 remaining in the game.

Nugent also scored on an 8-yard touchdown run with 1:49 remaining in the first quarter to cut the Briarcliff lead to 7-6.

Briarcliff took a 14-6 lead into the locker room at halftime until Bishopp returned the second-half kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, pulling the Huskies to within two points. He gave them the lead just under five minutes later with a 75-yard punt return.

Briarcliff took the lead back with 1:39 remaining in the third quarter with a one-yard touchdown run.
