Wallkill River Paddlefest set for Sept. 23

Posted

The Wallkill River Watershed Alliance invites you to paddle the Wallkill River as you enjoy live music from two wonderful local bands.

Saturday, September 23, 1 p.m. launch from Sojourner Truth Park in New Paltz. Rain Date Sunday, September 24.

The Damian Ecco Band will kick off the event at 1pm at the launch site and also welcome boaters back upon return around 4 p.m.  Their Alternative Folk/Rock music seeks to “lift the collective spirit to a higher level.”

Paddlers will head downstream toward the River to Ridge trailhead where the duo Hey Bub will transport listeners back in time with their American old time intricate harmonies, starting around 2:30 p.m.

Register at WallkillPaddleFest.eventbrite.com. Suggested minimum donation $5 if you have your own boat, $15 if you need to rent one, and more if you want to support the restoration and protection of the Wallkill River.  The discounted boat rental fee is generously being donated by New Paltz Kayaking to support the River’s cause. A limited number of boat rentals are available through the registration link.

On-land visitors are also welcome to enjoy the music starting 1 p.m. at Sojourner Truth Park and 2:30 p.m. at River to Ridge where the trail first meets the river as you walk toward town. On-land visitors are strongly encouraged to walk to these two sites from the municipal lot on Huguenot Street since parking is limited at Sojourner Truth and River to Ridge.

The Wallkill River Watershed Alliance (WRWA) is a local, all-volunteer run non-profit working toward protecting and restoring the Wallkill River for all to enjoy. The WRWA would like to thank New Paltz Kayaking, Wallkill Valley Land Trust, Hudson River Watershed Alliance, Village of New Paltz and Open Space Institute for helping to make this event possible.
