The Town of Lloyd Police are investigating a two-car fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on Route 9W near Chapel Hill Road in Highland at approximately 4:40 a.m. on Sunday August 6.

A 21-year-old Poughkeepsie man was driving a 2008 Ford Explorer southbound on Route 9w when he crossed into the northbound lane striking a 2016 Chevy Cruze which was traveling northbound on Route 9W.

The driver of the Chevy Cruze, a 50-year-old Poughkeepsie man was transported by New Paltz Rescue Squad to Vassar Hospital for internal injuries. The passenger in the Chevy Cruze, a 52-year-old Poughkeepsie woman was transported by Mobile Life Ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The operator of the Ford Explorer was the sole occupant and was uninjured.

Names are being withheld pending family notification. Lloyd Police were assisted at the scene by New York State Police, New York State Police Troop F Collision Reconstruction Unit, Highland Fire Department, Mobile Life Ambulance and New Paltz Rescue Squad. The accident is still under investigation.
