Love your block mini grants available

The City of Newburgh has been awarded funds through the Cities RISE grant, supplemented in 2021, with additional funding from the Council to offer the Love Your Block Mini-Grants.

Mini-grants are available to community- and faith-based organizations, tenant associations, and block associations to help facilitate community cleanups.

The grants are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Recipients will be able to use the funds to pay for a dumpster, carting fees, and cleaning supplies, as well as food and entertainment to facilitate a socially-distant block party. The events give residents the opportunity to dispose of accumulated bulk items while working to make communities safe and clean.

Neighborhoods in the City of Newburgh who participated in previous years saw improvements as a result of the City’s Love Your Block initiative. One grant recipient was Newburgh’s Broadway River District Neighborhood Association (BRDNA). The group was able to secure funding for improvements in two neighborhoods in the areas of South Miller and East Parameter. 2020 marked the second year the group was able to qualify for this grant and organizers thanked the City and event participants who made the cleanup possible.

Love Your Block was made possible through the Cities RISE grant which was launched in 2017 by the New York State Office of the Attorney General to help New York families and communities rebuild following the housing crisis.

Residents who are interested in learning more about community development projects and opportunities are encouraged to contact Nick Edward, Neighborhood Stabilization Coordinator at nedward@cityofnewburgh-ny.gov.
