Newburgh organization donates 310 meals to first responders and seniors

Community contributions are always important, but a global pandemic tends to make them even more necessary.
TRUSIC World Entertainment, a Newburgh-based organization that produces educational programs, musical performances and community-building events throughout the state, spent a recent Friday and Saturday preparing and delivering healthy meals to the staff at Cornerstone Family Healthcare, emergency room personnel at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital and residents of Burton Towers.
“We felt it necessary to give back to the essential workers who have fearlessly gone into these medical facilities every day to ensure that the members of our community received the treatment they need,” Sam “SES Vth” Simmons V, the CEO and founder of TRUSIC Music, LLC said. “We also believed it was necessary to spread some love and encouragement to our elderly community who are most at risk during this pandemic.”
TRUSIC hosts the Hudson Valley Vegan Food Festival each summer, but the fifth-annual won’t be held this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. Simmons said the donations were another way to ensure healthy meals were still presented to the Newburgh community.
“These meals were immune boosting and deliciously prepared by our friends at Bliss Kitchen and Wellness Center. In fact, the vegetables sourced for them came straight from a farm a few days prior to preparation,” he added.

On Friday afternoon (6/26), 60 vegan meals with Basmati rice, a mixed vegetable stir-fry, cabbage fritters, chili-style stew and mango semolina pudding were delivered to the Family Health Center. Another 125 were delivered to the emergency room, ICU, NICU and Environmental Services departments at the hospital that evening. The remaining 125 meals were delivered to senior residents at Burton Towers late Saturday (6/27) afternoon.
“This was just our way of saying to our community “We love you, we see you, and we appreciate you,” Simmons said.
The organization will again partner with Bliss Kitchen in a few weeks for a food give-away and clothing drive to assist the community’s homeless and food-insecure residents.
