On September 8, at approximately 11:26 a.m., City of Newburgh Police Officers were alerted by Shotspotter to shots being fired in the area of 72 William Street. Initial responding officers and detectives confirmed two people had been shot and were transported to a local hospital by personal vehicle.

One male was a 29 year old City of Newburgh resident who sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and his back. Second male victim was a 21 year old City of Newburgh resident that sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and his chest.

Both victims are in stable condition and expected to survive. The City of Newburgh Police Department was assisted on scene and continuing throughout the investigation by members of the New York State Police, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and members of the FBI’s Hudson Valley Safe Streets task force.

“This violent behavior is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated on the streets of Newburgh,” said Police Commissioner Jose Gomerez. “Our community and our children deserve to live free from gun violence.”
