Two leaving Marlboro school board

Last week the Marlboro administration a school board thanked two board members who are leaving this month - Frank Milazzo and John Marro. The two were not re-elected to their seats in the May election.
Milazzo first won a seat on the board 9 years ago.

“When I first ran it seemed like we were in crazy times with the financial structures that were going on and hundreds of people attending the meetings,” he said. “But I will take those meetings any day than what we dealt with this year. This was the most trying and confusing year and hopefully none of us will have to deal with this again in our lifetimes, hopefully we’ll go another hundred years before we have to deal with a pandemic and have to deal with this craziness.”

Milazzo said it was rewarding to have served on the board, “for the members of this community, to get to see the students and what they’ve achieved, whether it’s at the art expositions or going last year to the elementary and middle school moving up and DARE ceremonies.”

Milazzo said he was deeply moved while listening to essays written by students in the College English classes, “about their life experiences and you realize how sheltered a life you may have had compared to what some of our students have been through.”

Milazzo acknowledged that there have been good and bad years during his tenure but presently the district is in a good financial position due to the hard work of the administration and the school board working together.

“It’s been a great nine years but I’m not going anywhere; I’ll be at the board meetings, all the events and concerts and will not miss any of those things,” he promised. “I really do appreciate the support of everyone here, the administrators, the school board, faculty, staff and the community who has always come out for us. It’s been really enjoyable and it’s truly satisfying. We’re doing the right thing for the children in this district and for the members of this community. Thank you very much.”

John Marro said he usually does not speak that much at board meetings, “because I like to listen. I listen to all of you and you all make such great points and I like to add whatever I think the conversation needs. I don’t like to repeat things and that’s why I don’t say a lot.

Marro said he has been ‘humbled’ by having served on the school board.
“I learned a lot doing this and personally and professionally it’s been great for my career in the city,” he said, adding that he has learned so much from both Milazzo and Superintendent Brooks, in part by using some of their strategies.

Superintendent Mike Brooks thanked both departing board members for their dedicated service to the school board.

“Frank for your nine years and John you’ve been a consummate professional. I’m really appreciative of the time that we’ve had together and I appreciate both of you; John as an educator and certainly now as a colleague on the board, and Frank because of your role with Police organizations, I have tremendous respect for and the work you do outside of you school work; you are also a consummate professional and a person I call a friend.”
