A special election will be held later this month, asking voters of the Vails Gate Fire District for permission to replace its aging firehouse with a new facility at 872 Blooming Grove Turnpike.
A special election to approve an expenditure of up to $16.5 million will be held on June 22, 6-9 p.m. at the existing firehouse 1.The proposal is to demolish the existing Station 1 and build build a new facility that will be leased by the fire district from the Vails Gate Fire Company and a storage facility.
The current firehouse was built in 1959, after property was purchased from Forge Hill Farms. In 1963, the social hall was expanded to twice its original size. A lounge, conference room, and chiefs office were added to the second floor.
A second fire station, on Weather Oak Hill Road was built in 1965 to serve the western end of the district.
The Vails Gate Fire Department will host a presentation on Thursday, June 10 at 7 p.m. at Fire Station 1, 872 Blooming Grove Turnpike to review the proposed construction of a new firehouse.
The public is invited.
