VMPD getting a website

At the Montgomery Village Board meeting on June 1, Police Chief William Herlihy confirmed that his department would be publishing its own website shortly. Currently, their contact information as well as an overview of the department can be found on the Village of Montgomery website.

Once the website is published, information such as statistics gathered by the speed radar will become available to the public. This is done in an effort to maintain transparency.

The department is also exploring a less-lethal option for use of force instances. They are considering the purchase of a BolaWrap, a hand-held device that fires a kevlar cord that wraps around a person’s arms or legs from 10 to 25 feet away. This tool is designed to detain a person from a distance, giving officers an alternative to guns or tasers. Supervisors of the department have learned how to use the device, in preparation for if it is purchased. “This gives us one more less-lethal option to not have anybody get injured, which is our ultimate goal,” Herlihy said.
