State Police received a phone call Saturday from a woman who apparently found a body on a hiking trail in the Hamptonburgh Preserve.

A hiker along a trail in the Hamptonburgh Preserve discovered a body, Saturday morning, at the eastern bank of the Wallkill River.

State Police confirmed the discovery at 10:44 a.m. Uniformed and plainclothes investigators responded, along with the Goshen Ambulance Corps.

State Police have ruled out foul play and believe the deceased to be a victim of suicide. No further information was available.

The Orange County Land Trust describes the Hamptonburgh Preserve as 130 acres of prime nesting habitat for waterfowl, woodpeckers, bluebirds, and other cavity-nesting birds, plus 74 acres of rolling wildflower meadows, farmland and riverline forest along the Wallkill River. Parts of the land are being farmed, but the site is open to the public for walking, photography, and birding.
