Carnes announces re-election bid in Crawford

Posted

Charles Carnes formally announced his candidacy for Town of Crawford supervisor on July 13 with an announcement on the Town of Crawford Republican Committee Facebook page. He has been endorsed by the town Republican Committee as well as the Orange County Conservative Party.

Over the years, Carnes has led the town in many improvements. They include new parks and facilities, a new walking trail, a new sewer system, a refurbished downtown, a new highway facility and a new senior/community center. In addition, the town has adopted strict new zoning as outlined in their updated master plan.

During Carnes’ tenure as supervisor, the police and highway budgets have been increased and new personnel have been added to these departments for the protection of Crawford’s community members.

“Perhaps the most important item to note is that all these improvements have been done by applying for and obtaining grants and keeping town taxes as low as possible despite New York State’s ever increasing unfunded mandates,” Carnes said. “We have been under the New York tax cap every year since it was established.”

Carnes, who has served as town supervisor for 20 years, still has a few things he hopes to accomplish.

“One more term, a few things to accomplish,” he said. “Water would be one of them. Expand our walking trail. The marijuana issue. Try to revitalize downtown. A few things I still want to accomplish in the next two years.”

If re-elected, Carnes noted that his number one project will be to improve the town’s water. The town is currently working on a new well site. Creating more recreational opportunities is another goal of Carnes’ next term, as is bolstering tourism.
