School Superintendent Brian Dunn introduced a “Did You Know?” flyer that highlights some key facts about the Pine Bush Central District, at the school board meeting November 14.

The flyer, prepared by Linda Smith, Public Information Specialist, presents 16 facts at a glance about the district. For instance, Pine Bush educates 4,737 students from seven towns in parts of three counties. The high school has a graduation rate of 94%.

Other academic highlights include: The district offers 21 college classes and seven advanced placement classes. It offers seven summer high school academies, including one for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and a Human Rights Academy for middle school students.

The flyer also covers extracurricular activities. One thousand, three hundred and thirty-seven students participate in music programs. The district has 46 athletic teams, including unified basketball and bowling teams for students of all abilities. The district also offers 50 after-school clubs.

During the Public Comment segment of the meeting, parents Gina Vargas and Bain R. Louck, and two of their five daughters, asked the board to consider letting their daughters compete with the gymnast team in the Wallkill Central School District. They also asked the board to consider creating a gymnast team in the Pine Bush district. Dunn said he would contact the family.

Board president Gretchen Meier thanked the Wallkill East Rotary Club for its gift of 340 dictionaries to the district’s third graders.

The next meeting of the board will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 28, at Circleville Middle School.
