First responders look for more volunteers

Seven First Responders Agencies will hold a joint open house on Sunday in the hopes of attracting new members.

The agencies represent the emergency services for the towns of Shawangunk and Gardiner.

The open house will feature the Shawangunk Valley, Wallkill, Pine Bush,Walker Valley and Gardiner Fire Departments as well as the Wallkill and Pine Bush Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

At this open house, interactive rescue, medical and fire demonstrations will be performed. Also, there will be competitions including longest flight of a paper airplane and most skips of a rock down at the pond. Entire families are encouraged to participate. Prizes will be awarded.

Grand prizes among others will be day passes to Legoland, and day passes to Kartrite Water park. You must be a resident of the Towns of Gardiner or Shawangunk to be eligible to win a prize. A hot dog, bag of chips and a bottle of water will be given to the first 500 participants.

The open house will take place on September 26, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Shawangunk Valley Firehouse 2150 Bruynswick Rd., Wallkill.
