Kelly resigns as Walden treasurer

Posted

Kelly A. Kelly has resigned from her position as treasurer of the Village of Walden effective July 27. She has been afforded an opportunity as treasurer with a larger municipality in Orange County, however she was not at liberty to tell the Wallkill Valley Times at deadline.

“This has been one of the most difficult decisions for me, as I love my job in the Village of Walden and will greatly miss serving as the treasurer,” she said. “I do sincerely want to thank all of those that have guided me in my position, especially my co-workers, department heads and especially Manager John Revella for all the support and guidance I have received in the past five years while serving as the village treasurer.”

Since beginning her position in April 2016, Kelly has helped the village in a variety of ways. She transitioned two different billing and accounting software systems to integrate all departments within the village. Kelly also implemented online bill pay for water/sewer and commercial garbage billing. In her current role, she was able to move the village off the Susceptible to Fiscal stress designation which had previously triggered an Office of the State Comptroller audit.

As Walden treasurer, Kelly worked with the Recreation Coordinator Michael Bliss to implement the SI Play system to streamline the registration and payment process for participants in the recreation programs in the village. In conjunction with Manager Revella, she was able to build the village’s general fund balance significantly over the last five years per the Office of the State Comptroller audit recommendation from 2017.

“I feel like I also tried to streamline many policies and procedures to ensure proper internal controls were in place to protect the village from any fraud or abuse,” Kelly said.

Regarding her new position, Kelly is looking forward to learning new aspects of municipal accounting in a larger setting. She has offered to assist during the transition to the new Treasurer and will always be available to assist the Village of Walden in any way possible in the future. She hopes to always be a resource for the Village of Walden, as she is part of the community.

On July 7, the job opening for the full-time Walden treasurer position was posted to the village website. A link to the job posting can also be found on the village Facebook page. The successful candidate should live within the Town of Montgomery or be willing to move within the town limits within one year of appointment. The annual salary for the position is commensurate with experience. Applicants must submit an Orange County Employment Application plus a resume and any other pertinent information for consideration to the office of the Village Clerk, One Municipal Square, by 5:00 p.m. on July 20, 2021, after which time interviews will be conducted and an appointment made to the position.
