Maloney announces 2020 Service Academy appointments

Posted

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) HAS announced that 12 Hudson Valley students have accepted offers of appointment at one of the United States’ Service Academies.

Every year, Rep. Maloney has the honor of nominating outstanding high school students to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY.

“It’s a privilege to nominate outstanding students from New York to our revered Service Academies, including the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, right here in the Hudson Valley. These young people are inspiring, and have the smarts, the leadership, and the character to lead our armed forces in the next generation. They will make our country – and our communities – proud,” said Maloney.

Service Academy students accepted include:
Connor Leggett from Wallkill – attending the United States Military Academy

Brandon O’Brien from Montgomery – attending the United States Naval Academy
Students who wish to receive a nomination must go through a competitive application process and then be selected by an esteemed panel of local veterans and community leaders. The Academies make the final decision on who receives an appointment of admission.

Rep. Maloney’s office will start accepting applications on August 17, 2020 for students interested in entering one of the Service Academies in the summer of 2021.
