Universal Prekindergarten Applications are available January 25, 2024. The Valley Central School District announces its anticipated continued participation with the grant funded New York State half-day, full-day and expanded-day Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) program for the 2024-2025 school year. Services for the anticipated half-day, full-day and expanded-day UPK program will be provided through our locally approved UPK Providers rather than through a district-run program.

Applications for the 2024-2025 UPK program will be available January 25, 2024.

For more information or to request an application, please visit csd.k12.ny.us/about-us/universal-pre-kindergarten/ or call the UPK Office at (845) 457-2400 extension 18134 to have an application mailed to you. Eligible children include those who will be four years old on or before December 1, 2024 and who reside in the Valley Central School District. Completed, eligible applications will guarantee your child an opportunity to be included in the lottery selection process for the program. Applications are due no later than March 22, 2024.

I know it’s after Christmas but I was listening to a program on the radio about Toys for Tots. They stressed that they do give to older children (early teens) and that they usually don’t receive a lot of donations for that age group. So keep this in mind for next year.

“O Christmas Tree”; by now many of you have taken yours down, real or artificial. We just got them decorated and already we are talking about Christmas Tree Pickup thru January 30, 2024. Trees are to be placed curbside by 7 a.m. with no tinsel, garland or ornaments.

“The Book of Ruth” was the book under discussion at the MSC Book Club and there was certainly plenty to discuss! Most agreed that it was a gripping, disturbing tale of lives gone amok, well worth reading. The group also developed a list of books for 2024 and copies will be available at the Center. Next up is “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus. Join in and curl up with a good book as the next meeting is on January 17 at 10 a.m. to kick off the new year.

On Thursday, January 18 at 1 p.m. the NYS Citizen Preparedness Training Program will be offered. If you are planning to attend you must register. To resigister or for additional information, visit prepare.ny.gov.

If you have any questions, please contact the Senior Center 845-457-9367.
