Viking swimmers beat Middies

The Valley Central girls’ swimming team won nine events, and Emily White won two individual events as the Vikings defeated the Middletown Middies, 115-68, on September 26 at Valley Central High School in Montgomery.

White won both the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke and was a member of two winning relay teams, the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. White’s winning time of 1:20.31 in the 100-yard breaststroke was a season best.

Samantha Messing (200-yard freestyle), Molly Hoover (50-yard freestyle), Rilee Kinsley (diving), Olivia Messing (100-yard butterfly), Samantha Thompson (500-yard freestyle) all picked up individual wins for the Vikings.

Olivia Messing’s winning time of 1:10.66 in the 100-yard butterfly was her best finish of the season, while Mia Ponzo, who finished fifth, scored a personal best in 1:28.82.

Vivian Lam (200-yard individual medley, 100-yard backstroke) picked up two wins for Middletown. The Middies also won the 400-yard freestyle relay as the Vikings swam exhibition in the event with a big lead.

Ireland Fogarty and Abigail Hoover each posted personal best times of 2:30.09 and 2:49.18 respectively in the 200-yard freestyle. Ariana Rischmoller Motta placed a personal best in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 3:11.76.

Lucia Daubel posted a personal best of 1:15.72 when she took fifth in the 100-yard freestyle.

The Vikings had three meets in three days, and they finished third on Wednesday in a meet with the Spackenkill Spartans, Newburgh and Beacon. Spackenkill won the meet.

They finished the week with a 126-60 loss to the Pine Bush Bushmen. Katie Webster and Mackenzie Gular won two individual events each and were on two winning relays.
