In the end, Valley Central’s Jack Seymour broke the hearts of the Wallkill boys’ soccer team.
He delivered a shot from about 25 yards to the right over the head of Wallkill goalkeeper Anthony Annacone, eliminating the No. 5 Panthers with a 2-1 overtime win in Wednesday’s Section 9 Class AA quarterfinal.
Annacone finished with nine saves.
The teams traded a pair of early first-half goals with Valley Central’s Sean Watson and Wallkill’s Alexander DeCastro each scoring a goal.
The teams followed with about 70 minutes of scoreless soccer to force overtime.
Seymour scored with about four minutes remaining in overtime.
James Joyce finished with seven saves for the Vikings.
The Panthers finished the season with a 6-7-2 record.
Wallkill girls fall to Minisink
The fifth-seeded Wallkill girls’ soccer team was eliminated from the Section 9 Class AA tournament on October 24 when they suffered a 2-0 quarterfinal loss to the Minisink Valley Warriors.
The Panthers finished the season with a 6-7-2 record.
