Village elections set for March 19

Posted

March 19 is election day in villages throughout New York State. Locally, residents of Maybrook, Montgomery and Walden will be going to the polls to cast their vote. The following is a summary of the local candidates.

Maybrook
Mayor Dennis Leahy is unopposed for re-election. Also running unopposed are incumbents Charlie Woznick and Daryl Capozzoli. All the candidates are seeking two-year terms.

Voting will take place between noon and 9 p.m. at the Maybrook Senior Center.

Montgomery

Village of Montgomery residents will choose between Trustees Mike Hembury and Randi Picarello for mayor. They are seeking a three-year term to fill the unexpired term of former Mayor L. Stephen Brescia, who resigned in January to become Montgomery Town Supervisor.

In addition, voters will choose among Kevin Conero and Cynthia Nokland for a seat on the village board. They are seeking to serve the final year of the term of former Trustee Walter Lindner who resigned in November. Conero was appointed in November to fill that seat until the election.

An account of a candidate’s forum appeared in the March 7 edition of the Wallkill Valley Times.

The polls will be open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Montgomery Senior Center, 36 Bridge Street.

Walden

Walden voters will choose among six candidates for three seats on the village board. Incumbents Willie Carley and Becky Pearson are seeking re-election, along with former Trustees Jose DeJesus and Cheryl Baker. They are joined on the ballot by newcomers Bill Taylor and Liz Kyle.

Incumbent Patricia Maher is not seeking re-election.
The candidates were profiled in the Feb. 29 edition of the Wallkill Valley Times.

Voting will take place from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. in the Bradley Assembly Room, on the third floor of the Walden Municipal Building.
