Wallkill’s 2nd Annual Duck Derby is set for May 13

Join the community for the 2nd annual Duck Derby, a family-friendly event at Popp Park, on Saturday, May 13. The Duck Derby is hosted by Vision of Wallkill and Wallkill High School’s Senior Celebration Committee. Yellow rubber ducks will be launched into the Wallkill River, each contending to cross the finish line at Popp Park to claim the coveted “Fastest Duck” award and cash prize.

Want to adopt a duck? Tickets for ducks will be available at various locations and events, including at the Wallkill Post Office and soccer fields for Recreational Youth Soccer Opening Day on April 22, at the Yard Sale at Popp Park on April 29 and at the car show at the Wallkill Fire House on April 30. Tickets are also available at the Wallkill Public Library.

The Duck Derby and all the events will take place at Popp Park, starting at 12 noon. And there are plenty of activities before the race: a bouncy house, DJ and music, contests and games with ‘Ducky’ twists. The Wallkill Woman’s Club will be selling flowers just in time for Mother’s Day (the next day!). A few food vendors will have food for purchase. At 1 pm, there will be an animal show from the Hudson Valley Reptile Rescue. We also plan to have a few ‘real’ ducks on site too.

If you haven’t adopted your duck before getting to Popp Park for the derby, you can do so between 12 and 2:30 pm. The Duck Derby main event kicks off at 3 pm. Boaters will venture up the Wallkill River to launch the rubber ducks and you can watch them float downstream towards Popp Park. Kayakers will be waiting for the fastest ducks to cross the finish line. Winners will be announced once all the rubber ducks have been retrieved from the river.

When you adopt a duck, you are supporting this event that will help benefit Wallkill High School’s Senior Class. Be sure to mark your calendar for a fun afternoon for the entire family. For more information about the Duck Derby, call/text: VOW at 845-325-2329 or Senior Celebration at 845-728-0606.

The Town Wide Yard Sale sponsored by Vision of Wallkill is Saturday April 29. Shoppers from near and far are invited to hop, shop and stop at the numerous yard sales throughout the Wallkill hamlet and surrounding area. If you want to have a yard sale, but are without a yard, or perhaps live in a location further away from the hamlet, consider joining other families and renting a space at Popp Park for $20. If you are having a sale in your yard, and you want to have your address on our yard sale list, please text your address to 845-527-6230 by April 26. Questions can be sent to this same #, or message us on FB.
