Dragons roll past Newburgh, 36-10

Quinn Pikarski passed for 180 yards and connected for three touchdown passes as the Cornwall Drags handed Newburgh Free Academy their first loss of the season on Friday night at Academy Field.

The Dragons, who led 14-10 at halftime, erupted for 26 points in the second half, while holding a highly-regarded Goldback offense to just 67 yards rushing.

“After last week’s loss to Monroe Woodbury, I was eager to see how our kids would handle the adversity,” Coach Kevin Arduino said. “They had to learn how to respond to losing and we did that this week. I was extremely proud of how they came out and played on Friday. We cleaned up some of our penalties that hurt us the week before and took better care of the ball. Defensively, we forced 5 turnovers.”

Pikarski connected with receiver Gabe Phillips for touchdown passes of 18 and 20 yards, as well as a 50-yard touchdown pass to Stefan Woeltjen. Jordan Bishop scored on a 13-yard run to cap the scoring.

Bruce Montgomery ran for 76 yards and a touchdown for the Goldbacks.

The Dragons will have their home opener, Friday at 7 p.m., against division rival Goshen.
